Do you ever feel like you’re in a perpetual slump? Maybe you’re burnt out at work or you’ve been stuck in the same routine for a long time. One school of thought is that moments like these are because we don’t feel challenged. A way to break out of that mindset is to embrace your creative side.
“But I don’t have a creative side…” If you just had that thought run through your mind, don’t click away just yet. Instead, we want you to think of creativity as self-expression. Each of us has ways that we can do that, even if we’re not the world's best artist or inspiration doesn’t come naturally.
Creativity helps us Celebrate Life
Before we dive into the how we thought we’d take a moment to explain the why. Each of us has something to contribute to our community. When we find our niche, we’re indirectly Celebrating Life without even realizing it. It’s these moments that will define our legacy and how people will remember us.
Use your hands
Did you know that creativity isn’t limited to the arts? For example, if you’re technically minded or particularly adept at hands-on work, that is a form of creativity. It’s a skill not all of us possess.
Now here’s where the fun part comes in. Take those same skills and collaborate with someone in your family who has a different mindset. Perhaps you’re a father who has incredible wood working talent, and your son loves retro gaming. Together, your creativity will express what each of you does best!
Use your mind
Perhaps neither of those spoke to you, which is fine. We’re all built differently, and the legacy we leave behind will reflect the impact we had on others. So if you have an organizational mind, why not join a board of some kind? This can be by serving your local church or other non-profit organization. Your ability to see through a situation and analyze it from all angles is a great way to serve others.
Give an encouraging word
Creativity as self-expression is also reflected in how we treat others. Some people are especially strong with empathy. Therefore, let others know you see them. Compliment the cashier on their hairstyle or tell them how much their smile lights up the place. This might seem silly, but when we treat others with kindness, it can totally reset and shift the rest of their day.
Open up a doc and start writing
Another way that creativity can act as self-expression is by writing. Do you have a story in your mind? Forget whether or not you know every detail. Just open a Word or Google Doc and start writing. Let what’s in your mind flow and see where it takes you.
Learn an instrument for fun
This is a simple tip that might be geared more toward the musically minded, but don’t dismiss it just yet. We express ourselves in music more than we realize. If you’ve always wanted to learn an instrument, start today. It doesn’t matter how young or old you are, creativity through music is one of the ultimate forms of self-expression.
Creativity as self-expression can help us find a renewed sense of purpose
When we feel like we’re drifting, sometimes we just need to find something that helps to give us a renewed sense of purpose. That can be through the ideas we’ve mentioned today as well as many others.
Regardless of your chosen direction, remember to Celebrate Life today!
