At Jackson Lytle & Lewis, we strongly believe in supporting the Springfield community. This beautiful city makes it easy to celebrate life by providing unique opportunities to explore new places and spend time with family.
Exploring your community, however, sometimes feels like a lost art. We’re almost trained to see “experiences” as something you get while on vacation or visiting a big city like Chicago or New York.
Let’s take some time today to look at some broader things to look for within our region. And we’ll also be sure to throw out a possibility or two for each within Clark and Champaign Counties.
Natural Parks
Local parks are often one of the most overlooked amenities in a community. We spend our days driving past them on the way to work, school, errands, and beyond. Not only are they full of beautiful nature and scenery, but they’re also a great place for a quick exercise walk.
Take a moment to think about your nearest local park system. Is it one that you frequent or one you’ve not had the chance to explore? Visit George Rogers Clark Park in Springfield and discover the miles of trails, the 300-year-old forest, and the peaceful view of Hosterman Lake.
Museums
Museums are another hidden gem in many communities. Museums that bring the history of a town to life, ones that celebrate a significant event, and those honoring important industries or inventions are just waiting to be discovered and enjoyed. Spend a few hours browsing the exhibits at the Heritage Center in Springfield or marvel at living history at the Champaign Aviation Museum in Urbana.
Bike Paths
Are you a lover of the outdoors? Maybe you’re looking for a new skill to master. Or perhaps you’re just looking for an easy way to up your fitness game. Our area bike paths are the perfect answer to all three of these. Grab your bike and log some miles on the Simon Kenton Trail that runs through Champaign County. If you’re feeling especially adventurous, don’t stop there. This route connects to the Little Miami Trail, and you can take it all the way to Bellefontaine!
Local Shops
Local businesses are the driving force of a community. They live, work, and play right alongside you. Spend an afternoon strolling your downtown streets or shopping district and see what new and unique shops you may discover.
Not sure where to start? Be sure to visit each Chamber of Commerce and look for their shopping tab to get an idea of what’s out there.
Explore Springfield and Celebrate Life
Instead, you need to know where to look. Take some time to plan an afternoon for your family using the ideas we mentioned above. Then, get out there and have a great time! Remember, it’s all about celebrating life and embracing the wonderful gift we’ve all been given: each other!
