Wayne Leroy Maxton, 81, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2021 at Hospice of Miami County. Wayne was born on April 26, 1939, in Cedarville, Ohio, the son of the late Roger and Helen (Pemberton) Maxton.
In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by his son, Walter Lee Maxton; sisters, Shirley Mitchell and Katherine Nuanez; and brother, Edward Maxton.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy Lorraine (Hays) Maxton whom he married on October 2, 1959; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Linda Maxton; daughter and son-in-law, Candy Sue and Scott Smith; daughter-in-law, Naoma Maxton; grandchildren, Ashley Hoopes, Amy McCarty, Stacy Place, Bethann Maxton Da Mota, Lee Maxton, Kelsey Kuhns, Nathan Smith and Amanda Smith; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Wayne was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing and watching sports in his younger years. He retired from Cooper Energy after 30 years of service and continued to work for another 10 years at Environment Control. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed and his memory will be forever cherished.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 10a.m.-11a.m. at Jackson Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center with service beginning at 11a.m. Pastor Del Wallace will be officiating.
