Wanda Pierson Layne, born July 4, 1934, went to be with Jesus, June 18, 2024. Wanda was born and raised near Smith Grove, Kentucky.
Preceding her in death, mother and father, Mavis & Mryl Priddy; brothers: Earl, Eldon, Carl, Arlos, Ron, David, Noel, Chester and Lester; sisters: Mary Downs, Bea Allen, and Vasta Pierson; son, Michael Pierson; husbands: Robert "Bob" Pierson and Herman "Joe" Layne Jr.
She is survived by sons: Terry (Diann) Pierson and Les (Cindy) Pierson; grandchildren: Shawn (Hazel) Pierson, Mandi Pierson, Loretha (Tim) Golden, Lewella (Evan) Lomenick, Josh (Tonya) Pierson, and Jesse Pierson; great-grandchildren: Iris Pierson, Jesse Robert Pierson, Lillian Pierson, Trenton Golden, Landon Golden, Ella Lomenick, Esther Lomenick, Evalyn Lomenick, Sophia Pierson, Robert Pierson and Henry Pierson. A host of stepchildren, step-grandchildren, friends, wonderful neighbors and extended family.
Wanda "Grandma Wanda" will be remembered for her love of going to church, singing, making fried apple pies, and german chocolate cake. She also loved to shop til you drop! What fun! She loved her flower garden and growing vegetables, especially tomatoes and pole beans. She could hoe a garden like no one else. She loved her family, was full of fun and energy. She will be very much missed.
She was a wonderful example of a praying woman and faithful church attendant. She was a devoted member of Catawba Free Will Baptist Church where she led singing for many years. Wanda was lovingly cared for by her son Les and daughter-in-law, Cindy and faithful friend, Carolyn, for the past two years.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jackson Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center. Her funeral will follow on Tuesday, June 25 also at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Pastor Steve Evans. Wanda will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Dementia Society in Wanda's honor.
