Roger Alan Schutte, age 87 of Springfield, passed away on January 21, 2024. Born on January 12, 1937 to the late Joseph F. and Rose Mary Lee (Palmer) Schutte.
Roger will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend—to whom family always came first. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his son, Mark (Athena) Schutte, granddaughters: Cassandra “Cassey” (Merritt) Roseberry and Kiley (Aaron) Hartzell, and great-grandchildren, Peyton and Parker Roseberry and Hudson Hartzell. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carol Ann (Crabtree) Schutte, brother, Joseph A. (Carol Lee) Schutte, and sister, Jaclynn Schutte.
Roger selflessly served our country in the United States Army. Following his time in the service, he began a remarkable career with International Harvester/Navistar, where he served with unwavering loyalty for an impressive 31 years. Beyond Roger's military service and work life, he was known for his diverse range of collections. As an avid collector, he found his happiness in immersing himself in various pursuits—from gathering rare coins, guns, baseball cards, stamps to locating intriguing telephone insulators and decorative jars. Each item held a story that captivated Roger's curious mind; he saw value in preserving these fragments of history. Something else Roger deeply enjoyed was dancing with his loving wife, Carol. The neighbors found great joy in looking to the Schutte back porch to find Roger and Carol enjoying a dance together.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 11:00-12:00 p.m. at the Jackson Lytle and Lewis Life Celebration Center, Springfield. Roger will be entombed at the Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum following our time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clark County ASPCA in honor of Roger’s love for animals.
