NOURSE, Roger Eugene, age 85, from Springfield, Ohio went home to be with his Lord on November 8, 2024. He passed in Springfield Regional Medical Center after several years of fighting a variety of illnesses. He was born in Portsmouth, OH on May 15, 1939 to Vernon and Flo (Clark) Nourse. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1957 and attended The Ohio State University. He retired from International Harvester (Navistar) after 30 + years of service, continuing to work as a contractor for Navistar for several more years. He loved coaching, making a huge impact on many young people’slives. He was instrumental in developing the Northridge Bearcats football league back in the 1970s, coaching for many years. He also coached multiple Northridge baseball teams over the years. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 4 years, Nita (Walley) Nourse, 5 children; Jami (Dean) Yarger, Greg (Rachel) Nourse, Kevin (Melinda) Nourse, Andy (Lori) Nourse, and Ben (Stephanie) Nourse. 15 grandchildren; Megan (Sean) Boal, Adam Dyer, Cameron (Allison) Johnson, Devon (Alexa Hamilton) and Kobe (Sloane) Nourse, Jordan (Philip Springer), Josh, and Jillian Nourse, Jenna Nourse, Ethan and Alex Cooke, Sammy Nourse, Sydney (Omar Rivera Escamilla) and Alex Snyder, and Kyleigh Godsey; as well as 7 great-grandchildren; Lauryn, Lyndsie, and Gracyn Sellers, Isaac Budz-Dyer, Sawyer and Kortlen Nourse, and Zayne Hamilton. Also, stepson Brian (Christina) Mabry, and their son, Tate. He leaves one sister, Linda Hinkle and one brother-in-law, Don (Linda) Cochenour; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many very close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 51 years and mother of his children, Patricia “Patty” (Cochenour) Nourse, second wife Judy (Miller) Nourse; and brother-in-laws Bob Hinkle and Steven Cochenour. Roger was a faithful servant and wonderful worker for the Lord. He attended First Christian Church for many years and was a charter member of Springfield Church of Christ where he served as a deacon, elder, bible study leader, part of the mission’s ministry team and building & grounds ministry. He spent many hours riding the mower as he helped take care of the maintenance of the church property. He always said this was a special time for him to meditate and pray “but with his eyes open!”. Roger also was a die-hard Ohio State Buckeye fan and was honored to serve as a Red Coat for one season. He perfected the sport of “armchair coaching”, being overly loud at times, which he has passed on tohis children. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 11from 4 to 7 at the Springfield Church of Christ, 1620 Buck Creek Lane, Springfield OH. A celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, November 12 at 12 noon, also at the church building, with Bill Warax, minister, officiating. There will be visitation for 1 hour prior to the service, also at the church. Burial to follow at Ferncliff Cemetery. Donations may be made in memory of Roger to the Springfield Church of Christ.
