Larry W. Durfey, age 86, of Springfield, joined his heavenly father on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. He was born on May 22, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of the late Lafeyette and Marie (Miller) Durfey. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, David Durfey; and sister, Carol Paffenberger. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet (Schmokel) Durfey; children, Lynn (Tim) Tiede, Beth (Scott) Osweiler, Bart (Shawna) Durfey, Noel (Kelly) Durfey and Dean (Michelle) Durfey; grandchildren, Michael and Bailey Zander, Kevin and Alyssa Zander, Michael and Eric Tiede, Mick Mickens, Hunter and Kelly Mickens, Alexis Mickens, Diego Avalos, Jacob Osweiler, Heather Durfey, Savannah Durfey, Olivia Durfey, Nicholas Harris, Samantha Niro, Emilyann Durfey and Jeremy Heglin; great-grandchildren, Gage, Ella, Oliver, Stella, Max, Henry, Makyla, Ryder, Preslee, Sylas, Francesca and Gray; sister-in-law, Joyce Waidelich; brother-in-law, Robert “Skip” Schmokel; special niece, Debra Perry; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Larry was a member of the South Charleston United Methodist Church since 2013. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and retired in 2000 as a food broker. After retirement, he volunteered at Springfield Regional Medical Center and served as South Charleston Commissioner for many years. He was also the President of Little League in South Charleston. He enjoyed cutting wood and feeding birds, but one of his favorite hobbies was fishing, especially in Canada. Larry was a man of strong faith and his passion in life was being with his loving wife of 65 years, his family and spending time with good friends and neighbors. Memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 11:30a.m. at South Charleston United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior.
