Joyce A. Smith, born on May 6, 1942, in Springfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Her departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her. Joyce lived a vibrant life dedicated to her passions, her family, and her remarkable career as a florist.
For 40 years, Joyce graced the floral industry with her talent, working at Michaels Florist, Hazel's, and London Florist. Her artistry shone through every arrangement she crafted, bringing joy and beauty to countless events and occasions. Whether it was a wedding or a simple bouquet, Joyce's arrangements were always filled with thoughtfulness and creativity, reflecting her deep love for what she did.
In addition to her floristry, Joyce was a gifted pianist, whose love for music enriched her life and those around her. She found joy in playing the piano and particularly adored singing Elvira. Her passion extended to sharing this love with others; she eagerly taught children how to play, infusing their lives with the ever-so-sweet notes of music. Joyce was also an avid lover of puzzles and card games, where her delightful wit and competitive spirit often surprised those around her, especially during spirited games of Euchre.
Joyce's greatest pride, however, lay in her family. As the devoted mother of John G. Smith, Michael D. (Rita) Smith, and Debra A. Faulkner, she nurtured her children with unwavering love and support. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren—Brandon, Amber, Jennifer, Bridget, David, Deanna, and Chris—as well as her nine cherished great-grandchildren. Joyce had a heart full of love not only for her immediate family but also for her extended family. She shared a special bond with her cousin Judy Burton, who was like a sister to her, and held her sister-in-law Elaine Cottrell dear to her heart. Her nephews and niece, Rick Jones, David Cottrell, and Shirley Paden, were fortunate to experience her warmth and encouragement throughout their lives.
Joyce was also known for her community spirit, having founded and led the Bunny Scramble at the Clark County Fair alongside her late husband, John E. Smith. She took immense joy in establishing the Rabbit Royalty at the fair, a testament to her dedication to enhancing local traditions and experiences.
Though Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her family, she is preceded in death by her husband, John E. Smith, her parents Cy and Maudie (Miller) Cottrell, her brothers Leonard Jones, Sam, and David Cottrell, as well as her grandson Michael David Smith.
Joyce A. Smith's loving spirit and creative essence will forever echo in the arrangements she crafted, the melodies she played, and the hearts she touched. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024 at 1:00pm with a viewing one hour prior at Ingling And Lewis Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
