Jody Christopher Black, age 48, of Pomeroy, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, August 5, 2024. He was born December 2, 1975, in Springfield, Ohio to David Black and Ginny (Walters) Spencer. He is survived by his mother, Ginny and stepfather Rich Spencer; Lauren Conner, his partner of 15 years who faithfully cared for him the last six years of his life, and her mother, Susan Conner; his siblings, Jeff (Robin) Black, Tracy (Chris) Nicewaner, Steve Spencer and Andy Spencer. Also surviving is his stepmother, Juanita Black, stepbrothers, Brent (Amy) Parsons and Travis (Jodi) Parsons as well as a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jody was preceded in death by his father, David Black, maternal grandparents, Junior and Sarah Walters and paternal grandparents, Ernie and Margie Black.
Jody had a deep appreciation for music with a special love for the sounds of the Grateful Dead and Bob Marley. He enjoyed playing the harmonica as well. In addition to his musical interests Jody, along with Lauren, had a love and passion for breeding and raising English Mastiffs, nurturing them with care and devotion. Jody also spent time managing properties and working on their farm in Meigs County.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Jackson, Lytle and Lewis Life Celebration Center, Springfield, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society in Jody’s honor.
