James Charles Shull

March 14, 1958 — September 17, 2024

Springfield

James Charles Shull, affectionately known as Jim, left this world September 17, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio, where he was born on March 14, 1958. He lived a life full of laughter, connection, and an unwavering love for his family and friends.

Dedicating over 30 years of service to ODOT construction, Jim earned his retirement, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and camaraderie. His friendly demeanor and natural ability to engage with people were hallmarks of his personality; he was often found chatting with neighbors, brightening their day with a good joke or light-hearted banter. Jim was known for his passionate “cheering” for his children during their sporting events, offering encouragement in a way that only they could appreciate, even if it sometimes resembled more of a playful admonishment of the referees.

Beyond his professional life, Jim had a profound love for animals and demonstrated a tenderheartedness that extended to all living creatures. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether that was spending time outdoors mowing the lawn, hunting with his father, or nurturing his beloved garden. His incredible handy skills allowed him to build and fix nearly anything, which made him an invaluable resource for those around him.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Hohn) Shull; his cherished children, Jenna Shull and James "JC" Shull; his siblings, Cindy Shull (Billy), Debby (Ron) Easley, and Terry Grabill; his stepbrother, Charlie Trueblood; father-in-law, David Hohn; and sisters-in-law, Claude (Rick) Hay and Missy Hohn. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who carry the spirit of his love in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Shull and JoAnn Trueblood; mother-in-law, Janet Hohn; and brother-in-law, John Grabill.
