DEMUTH, Herman Jan age 83 of South Charleston passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born on July 16, 1937 in Sublette, Kansas to the late Francis A. and Alice L. (Anderson) Demuth. Jan leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 41 years, Linda (McGowan) Demuth; children: Susan (Steve) Evans, Karen (Joe) Klumpp, Melissa (Brian) Gilley, Erin (Ricard) Kelly, Jeremy (Amanda) Demuth, Tim Lannert and Joseph Lannert; a sister, Anna (James) Cousins; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Jan retired as a lieutenant colonel after more than 21 dedicated years in the United States Air Force. While in the USAF, two of his many awards were the Air Force Commendation Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters and the Meritorious Service Medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster). He went on to retire for a second time from the Federal Aviation Administration as a Flight Safety Inspector. He was an avid marksman and looked forward to the annual Oklahoma pheasant hunting trip with his family and friends. Jan will be sorely missed by those who knew him. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Jackson Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center from 4:00-6:00 p.m. with a service celebrating his life beginning at 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton in Jan's honor.
