Hazel L. Donovan, "Nana”, age 89 of Springfield, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, May 1, 2020. She was born on September 26, 1930, in Patterson, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Rudolph and Ethel (Dye) Frey. Nana is survived by her sons, Thomas and Michael Donovan; grandchildren, Wendy Donovan (Lara Alexander), Mark (Ashley) Donovan, Melissa (Daman) Parks, Bart (Jennifer) Cason, Katie (Stephen) Blum, Matt Cason and Jessica Payne; great-grandchildren, Shelby Borthwick (Christopher Richter), Harper, Ellington and Henry Donovan, Tayla Dozier (Anthony Gonzalez), Aubrianna, Daman Jr., Devyn and Daquanne Parks, Aubrey Dozier (Gauge Hayman), Edwin LeValley, Samantha and Sara McVey and Rhyann Cason, great-great grandchildren, Brayson Hayman, Bishop Gonzalez, Leia Gonzalez and one on the way, Reyna Hayman; brother, Bill Frey; sister, Marge Day; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to her parents, Nana is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter N. Donovan and numerous brothers and sisters. She retired from Society National Bank and started her own catering and florist business called Party Perfect/Perfect Posies in Silk. She ran her business out of her home and she did hundreds of weddings and other events for many years. Nana treasured the many friendships that were created by her memberships in the Springfield Card Club and the Red Hat Society. She loved reading and watching Blue Bloods and Ohio State Football, and especially enjoyed watching cooking shows. Nana was sassy and classy and could bake like no other. Baking cookies and cakes for family and friends brought her great joy and everyone loved “Nana Cake”. She was an artist at heart and she could take nothing and turn it into something beautiful with ease, a true home economics MacGyver. She loved all her dogs and spoiled them like she did the rest of her family. She was truly cherished and loved by everyone who knew her and was always ready to take on the role of Nana to all of her “bonus grandkids”. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nana’s name to the Clark County Dog Shelter, 5201 Urbana Rd. Springfield, OH 45502 or Clark County SPCA, 21 Walter St. Springfield, OH 45506. There will be no services at this time, however, condolences may be expressed to her family by visiting www.jacksonlytle.com.
