Gregory Lee Hasser

December 15, 1949 — December 23, 2023

Springfield

Gregory Lee Hasser passed peacefully on December 23, 2023 after a long period of illness.

Greg was born in Yellow Springs on December 15, 1949, to Cecil and Wilma Hasser. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Mark and ex-wife, Beverly (Willis) Hasser. He is survived by brothers, Robert (Gwendolyn) Hasser, Steve (Jane) Hasser and sister, Laura (Todd) VanLehn; daughter, Shannon Hasser and grandchildren, Jaylen, Madison and Camden.

He worked at Luttrell's (Tom's) grocery during and after graduating from high school in 1968. He married Beverly Willis, and they had their only child Shannon.  He obtained his barber license from the state after he graduated from Columbus Barber College.  He co-barbered with Russ Hughes in the 255 Xenia Avenue barber shop.  Greg purchased that business and barber shop in January1972, which became Hasser Barber Shop. Greg also was a night custodian for years at Yellow Springs High School.

Greg had many passions in his life. He was proud to fly the American flag and loved his Plymouth 440 GTX.  He loved to ride motorcycles and acquired a 1937 Indian Sports Four, an Indian 1948 Chief and a Kawasaki KZ900. In his youth he played guitar in local groups and jam sessions.  He enjoyed many camping trips with his motorcycle clubs.  He was a world traveler, where he visited the mid-east, central America and many Caribbean Islands.  He had fatherly love for his daughter Shannon and his grandkids.

Greg organized the July 4th, 1976 Yellow Springs Bicentennial Parade.  He thought it was the patriotic thing to do. He spent countless hours inviting groups, bands and equine clubs to participate.   Greg, dressed as George Washington in a boat crossing the Delaware River, led the parade in the first float. His efforts were rewarded by having the most diversity in the number of parade participants. He was very proud of that parade.

Greg was proud to be a barber, a businessman and a shop owner. He thought nothing of seeing a customer at home to give a haircut. He was proud of his pet Piranha in the shop aquarium.  He had many friends who stopped in to say hi, get their hair cut or just visit with those in the shop.  He gave many a village youth their first haircut.  He sometimes referred to himself as " Hackin' Has " as he went about providing " handsomidity rejuvenation" to many customers. Greg will be missed by many.
