Grace R. Foley

June 14, 1920 — July 10, 2021

Grace Foley, born June 14, 1920 in Philadelphia to William Russell, Jr. and Laura Russell. Passed peacefully July 10, 2021 in Springfield, OH. She graduated from Upper Darby High School, the University of Pennsylvania (Bachelor of Music) and Peirce Business College. Grace was a member of Chi Omega, Professional Secretaries International, Audubon Society and Metropolitan Opera Guild. She was preceded in death by husbands, David Street (1945-1981) and John (Dick) Foley (1982-1997). Grace lived in Connecticut for 50 years and was an executive secretary at Connecticut General Life Insurance for 10 years. She loved to travel and some of her favorite destinations were Paris, Japan and California. Grace went on 79 Elderhostel-based trips all over the world. Singing was always an integral part of her life. Grace sang in many different musical groups including the Cincinnati Summer Opera, Hartford Symphony Chorale and Connecticut Opera. She also volunteered in educational services for the blind. Grace’s other interests were birdwatching (red cardinals, rose-breasted grosbeaks, her parakeet and cockatiel), Scrabble, the Sunday NY Times, crosswords, sewing, watercolor painting and baking fancy cookies. In her final five years in Ohio, she lived independently under the caring supervision of Sam & Viv. When she moved to Springfield and was surrounded by great grandchildren, she preferred to be called Gigi (GG for Great Grandmother). Grace is survived by her daughter Viv Barrett (Sam) of Springfield, OH and son Dan Street (Mary Ann) of Myakka City, FL; two grandchildren, Ruth (David) Szpunar of Greenwood IN and Luke (Courtney) Barrett of Springfield OH; five great grandchildren, Nathaniel & Anna Szpunar and Josiah, Kaitlyn & Levi Barrett; plus stepchildren John, Ann and Jim (deceased) Foley. Arrangements provided by Jackson, Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center, 2425 N Limestone St, Springfield, OH. Memorial Service will be at 11:00 am following an hour of visitation July 24 at RiverSong Church, 3660 Springfield-Jamestown Rd. (Route 72), and private burial at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, New Carlisle, OH.
