Glenn Ovid Temple

Glenn Ovid Temple (83) passed away on January 23, 2020 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family who loved him so dearly. He was born on July 24, 1936 in Lake Providence, Louisiana, to Edgar Renfro and Allie Mae (Rinicker) Temple. After graduating Bastrop High School with Mu Sigma honors in 1954, he joined the Air Force and eventually became a court reporter. Glenn was a talented, self-taught typist. He was able to type over 100 words per minute on the old manual Royal typewriters. He was envied and admired by his new JAG officer for the incredible honor of having his work published in the Congressional Record, although he was just a “clerk” at the time. Glenn went on to graduate from Northeast Louisiana State with a degree in Applied Mathematics, and earned his Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering (operations research) from Texas A&M University. He proudly served his country for over 24 years, earning a Bronze Star following a tour in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He worked 20 more years as an Air Force civil servant at Wright-Patterson AFB.

Glenn worked hard but also played hard. He enjoyed camping, building and flying radio control aircraft, water skiing, fishing, riding motorcycles, grilling, cooking, and traveling. Most of all he loved being with family. His later years were spent at Tomorrow’s Stars RV Resort where he cut endless amounts of grass with a riding mower and then relaxed around a campfire visiting with family and friends.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Brenda (Hunter) Temple, his brother Robert Edward, his sons Guy Wendel (Alya), Burt Andre, Vic Bruno (Laura), and his daughter Lora Sue (John) Phillips; 25 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Of special note is Glenn’s close relationship with Brenda’s brothers, Ron, John, Scott and Brett Hunter.

Glenn is preceded in death by his beloved youngest son Rodney Glenn, his sister-in-law Shirley (Mayberry) Temple, his parents, and Brenda’s parents Rodney Jay and Betty Jean (Giehl) Hunter.

A viewing and funeral service will be held at the Jackson Lytle Funeral home in Springfield, Ohio on Thursday January 30, 2020. The viewing will be held from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. The funeral, officiated by Pastor Kevin Slyh, will begin at 12:30. Following the funeral a procession will depart for the National Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio for a military graveside service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the oncology department at Wright Patterson Air Force Base (Dee), and Hospice (Caroline) for their care, love, and dedication.

Glenn was loved and respected by all who knew him. We will forever value our time spent together creating happy memories. His caring spirit always made everyone around him feel special and loved. He was our biggest supporter, our guiding light, and the greatest husband, father, papaw, and friend. We will especially cherish the stories he told, the laughter he evoked, his sage advice, valuable life lessons, and wonderful hugs. He will be greatly missed, and never forgotten.
