Springfield

Gary E. Severt, a beloved member of the Springfield community, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, at the Ohio Masonic Home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 31, 1947, in Springfield, Ohio to the late James and Mary Jane (Powell) Severt.

Gary was known for his unwavering love for his family. He was a devoted husband of 54 years to Sarah (Waters) Severt and a proud father to his children, Steve (Kelly) Severt, Tonya (Chris) King, and Amanda (Tyler) McClain. As a Papaw, he cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, Caleb, Michael, Brady, Sophie, and Brody, earning the title of "Best Papaw" through his constant support and encouragement at their sporting events.

After dedicating 37 years of his career to Navistar, Gary was able to retire and shift his focus to his true passion: spending time with and caring for his grandchildren. He was a passionate fan of Cincinnati Reds baseball and enjoyed annual family trips to Pike Lake for the past 33 years, where he also enjoyed playing disc golf.

Throughout his life, Gary demonstrated his commitment to serving his country by enlisting in the United States Army, showcasing a spirit of dedication and sacrifice. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and brothers Phil (Teresa) Severt and Brian Severt, as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss his kind-hearted nature.
