Gary was known for his unwavering love for his family. He was a devoted husband of 54 years to Sarah (Waters) Severt and a proud father to his children, Steve (Kelly) Severt, Tonya (Chris) King, and Amanda (Tyler) McClain. As a Papaw, he cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, Caleb, Michael, Brady, Sophie, and Brody, earning the title of "Best Papaw" through his constant support and encouragement at their sporting events.

Throughout his life, Gary demonstrated his commitment to serving his country by enlisting in the United States Army, showcasing a spirit of dedication and sacrifice. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and brothers Phil (Teresa) Severt and Brian Severt, as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss his kind-hearted nature.
