Edward Knight Rhoads Sr., age 83 of Springfield, Ohio passed away on December 16, 2022. He was born on January 10, 1939 in Springfield, Ohio to the late Edward R. and Ella Ione (Knight) Rhoads. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Judith (Hensey) Rhoads, children, Ed (Emily) Rhoads Jr., Betsy Baneck, and Bob Rhoads, grandchildren; Landon Rhoads, Katie Baneck, Brooke Rhoads, and Baileigh Rhoads, sister, Shirley Blosser, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his parents, Ed is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Joseph Baneck.
Ed was known for his ability to find a friend in anyone. He spent over 75 years on the same Moorefield Township farm on Hodge Road. After graduating from Northeastern high school in 1956, he continued farming and raised cattle, hogs, and sheep. Ed also raised border collies but among his favorite pets was a corgi named Corky.
In July of 1963, Ed married his wife Judy. Ed and Judy would go on to have 3 children and 4 grandchildren who were fortunate to be really close to their grandparents. Ed’s grandchildren grew up watching cartoons with their grandpa and listening to him tell them stories from his past.
Throughout the years, Ed and his wife, Judy, developed a passion for antiques and it eventually became a full time hobby after retirement. Ed’s favorite items to sell were primitive tools and toy tractors.
Ed will be deeply missed by all, especially by his best friend and his son, Bob.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 11:00-1:00 p.m. at the Jackson Lytle and Lewis Life Celebration Center, Springfield.
