Edgar Owen Mcpherson

September 4, 1946 — February 21, 2023

Edgar Owen (Shaw) McPherson was born on September 4th, 1946 to Owen & Geneva Shaw (deceased). At 18 months Edgar along with his 3 year old beloved brother James (deceased) were adopted by Rev. Maynard and Mrs. Jennie McPherson.

Edgar married the love of his life Bonnie Polley on June 10th 1967. God blessed this marriage for 55 and a half years up. Their love continues growing and will forever throughout the years.

Edgar and Bonnie were blessed with 3 children and their spouses, Angela (Kevin),, Michelle (Paul), and Zachary (Sarah). Edgar is a devoted Father and loves being a grandfather to India (James),Danny (Riley), Sydney (Peyton), Kennedy, Marty, Aiden, and Sophie. These grandchildren whom he loved to be around gave him 3 great grandchildren, Ivey, P.J., C.J. and Baby girl Clark due this Spring. Edgar is also survived by countless other friends and family members.

In his spiritual journey with God, Edgar accepted Christ as his personal Savior many years ago. A special highlight of Edgar’s life and faith was his time as Youth Leader at Beacon Street Church, sharing devotion and recreation with the youth in the community.

Edgar had a voice like a general and a heart like a lamb. His heart belonged to Bonnie and they were the love of each other's lives. Edgars hugs, devotion, and snuggles made Bonnie feel so safe and secure. This love and devotion was and continues to be a blessing for both he and Bonnie.

Edgar’s love for his first born Angela was truly that of a proud Father and he was the best dad she could ask for. Among all the wonderful ways Edgar made Angela feel loved, one of the best was how he made every Christmas special for the whole family. Even if that meant wrestling in the middle of the store for the best toy of the season, or lighting up the house in a manner that would make Clark Griswold jealous. Edgar was always there to love his daughter, her husband, and their children and grandchildren and he is in their hearts forever until they see each other again.

Edgar once again showed the love he had for his children when Michelle became pregnant at 15. This was quite a shock to Edgar (and Bonnie) as it occurred despite the “House Rule” of no dating until 16. With this pregnancy Edgar jumped right in and supported Michelle, father Danny Davis and soon to come baby India. Edgar did this despite some close friends and family expressing that while Edgar and Bonnie were still welcome his grandchild would not be. Edgar never flinched and chose to be a wonderful and caring grandpa to India while making sure Michelle finished school and continued on to become a nurse and now grandmother herself.

Edgar was also a great teacher and showed this through his love and patience teaching son Zac how to play the game of golf starting at 3 years old. He struck a deal with the local course to let Zac start playing at an earlier age than would normally be allowed and this led to years of competition, learning, love, and most of all endless memories for Zac and Edgar. No one ever met Edgar and quickly forgot him and this was especially true on the golf course. He never had a bad day if he was playing golf, and this goes double when he was with his family.

Edgar will be missed by many and remembered by all who ever had a conversation with him. From the youth he led at church, to various basketball, golf, track, softball teams he coached and those who were just lucky enough to meet him and experience him and his humor.

Edgar and his family would like all those who have supported them through the past years. Including his doctors, nurses, caregivers, and more. A special thanks must be given to his physician Catherine Earl and Pastor Tim and Becky Young.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the Christian Heritage Church. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Tim Young. Edgar will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Burial Park immediately following the funeral services. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson Lytle and Lewis Life Celebration Center, Springfield.
