Dave Roberts

Cedarville

David Roberts, 74, of Cedarville, Ohio, passed away on March 12, 2025, after post-operative complications. Dave, as he was known by most, was born to Grace and Orvel Roberts on March 6, 1951.

Dave is survived by his wife of 53 years, Evelyn, two sons, Bryan and Eric (Emily), one daughter Kristy (Justin) Truitt, and three beloved grandchildren, August (12), Henry (10), and Alice (7). Dave was an only child and is preceded in death by his parents.

Dave graduated from Beavercreek High School in 1969 and immediately began working for General Motors. After finishing his apprenticeship, he worked as a tool and die maker for 20 years. Even though Dave was not college educated, he achieved countless certifications and taught himself to be a computer programmer. He went on to program for Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines at GM.

In 2001, after 32 faithful years, he retired from GM and worked as the lead AutoCAD designer and tool shop foreman at GSS in Springboro and a programmer at Gem City Engineering until he stopped working in 2020.

In his early years, Dave’s favorite thing was spending weekends with the family at Lake Waynoka in Southwestern Ohio. He built a floating dock with a lift to hold his beloved 1978 Arrow Glass tri-hull with an outboard Evinrude that he loved to hear purr. Dave was a master at slalom skiing, a skill he perfected over many years on the lake. His wife, Evelyn, was always his preferred boat driver when he was skiing, and he loved reminiscing about how the water was always “as smooth as glass.” The boat lay dormant for decades until he and his daughter, Kristy, restored it. In the summer of 2009, the Roberts family took to the waters once again on the newly christened “Daddy’s Girl.”

Dave was a bit of an amateur photographer. He loved taking scenic pictures and always had his camera on every vacation and holiday. There are thousands of slides, photographs, and digital images that capture the best moments of his life. His son, Bryan, adopted his love of taking pictures. Dave also enjoyed riding his 2001 Harley Davidson UltraClassic. He and his wife, Evelyn, took countless scenic rides through the back roads of the Eastern United States, and he enjoyed riding The Tail of the Dragon in Gatlinburg with his son, Eric.

Dave was a quiet man, often one of few words. Once you got him started though, it was hard to get him to stop. He was handy in all the ways you wanted a husband and father to be. He was patient, hard- working, strong, and faithful. He was a constant. Dave loved his family and lived for his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
