Darrell Ray Fahnestock, age 78, of Springfield, went home to be with his Lord and savior on Saturday, November 13, 2021. He was born on October 19, 1943, in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late Walter B. and Luella M. (Kinninger) Fahnestock. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 26 years, Shirley (Gragg) Fahnestock; daughters, Chrissonda Marie (Marcus) Evans and Donna Sue Murphy; step-sons, David Hines, Greg (Christina) Hines and Brian (Stephanie) Hines; brother, Donald (Judy) Fahnestock; sister, Doris Dowden (Harry Maggiore); brother-in-law, Bob Koons; sister-in-law, Brenda McCracken; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; best friend and fishing buddy, JB Brown; special friend and neighbor whom he always was seen laughing with, Steffen Simpson; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Brian Ray Fahnestock; son-in-law, Michael Murphy; and sister, Betty Koons. Darrell worked in construction his entire life and retired after many years from Kokosing Construction. He was an avid fisher and hunter, enjoyed gardening and singing along with old country songs. Darrell had the gift of being able to fix anything and was always the first person called when his family needed help. He worked hard and played harder but above all else, Darrell adored his family. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them and was recently very proud to be the patriarch of a five generation family. His selflessness and love for all will forever be a part of his legacy. Viewing will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 4-6p.m. with service beginning at 6p.m. at Jackson Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center, Springfield, Ohio. Pastor Kevin Moehn will be officiating. Condolences may be expressed to his family by visiting www.jacksonlytle.com.
