Carolyn Sawyer Havens

Carolyn Sawyer Havens of Oakwood Village in Springfield, Ohio has peacefully passed away September 16, 2020 without COVID-19. She was born at The Ohio State University Hospital on November 19, 1927, to Alva Judson and Mary Charlotte (Jones) Sawyer. Carolyn graduated with the Upper Arlington High School Class of 1945. She attended Stephens College and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Ohio State University in 1950. A lifetime member of Delta Gamma Sorority, she earned The Cable Award for her tireless dedication, and, is one of the original members who helped colonize the Gamma Theta Chapter at Gainesville for the University of Florida. She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William Dysle Havens, whom she married June 8, 1951. She is also preceded by brothers-in-law Joseph John Burgoon, Jr.; Richard Virgil Havens, John Franklin Havens; sisters-in-law Cynthia (Billups) Havens, and Margaret (Sprague) Cox Havens. She is survived by her dear sister, Beverly (Joseph) Burgoon; her selfless sister-in-law, Sally (John) Havens; five very precious daughters: Dysle (Frank) Butts, Dana (Richard) Owen, Sara (David) Turner, Susan (David) Fleece, Amy (Daniel) Hoffman; and those five steadfast sons-in-law; eleven exceptional nieces and nephews: Greg, Kit, Bob, Beth; Vicky, Jamie; Leslie; Chris, Thom, Ellen, Suzy; seven remarkable grandchildren: Laura, Frank, Will; Rich, Bill; Katie, Jud, and their wonderful spouses; twin great-grandchildren: Harrison and Henry; and many other beloved family and friends. She is interred beside William at Headley Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Ohio. A private memorial service will be at a later date.
