Betty Jean Rice

Betty Jean (Brown) Rice, 92, formerly of South Charleston, Ohio passed away on March 19, 2025 at Alpine Nursing Center. Betty was born in Springfield, Ohio November 22, 1932 to Clifton and Dorothy Brown. Betty was married to the love of her life for fifty years Frederic Rice until his passing in 2001.

Betty was a homemaker most of her married years, and took great pride in taking care of her family. The only thing she ever wanted to be was a mother and she was great at it. She was an avid seamstress and she made quilts for everyone she came in contact with. She was the oldest of thirteen children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frederic Rice, four brothers, Ronald, Clifton Jr., Harold, and Larry Brown, and one sister, Patricia and son-in-laws, Jack Briggs and Bill Cook, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Betty is survived by three daughters, Deborah Briggs, Brenda (Gary) Kosa, and Kimberley Cook, grandchildren, Rene (Vincent) Abbate, Beth (Greg) Carian, Andrew (JoEllen) Kosa, Billy Cook, Joshua (Rebecca) Briggs, Sarah (Caleb) Zeh, Cody, Jason, Maisy, and Emily Cook, great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kenyon, Kaitlynn, Alex, Lilah, Billy, Beau, Luke, Hawk, Jemma, Oliver, Josie, Carter, Ryan, Ayden, and Hannah, sisters, Marjorie Hooper, Nancy Bostic, Linda Baldwin, Sandy Palmer, and Bonnie Brown, brothers, Phillip and Danny Brown, and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society of Springfield, Ohio. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Mar 23, 2025 from 1:00-3:00 PM at Ingling Williams and Lewis Funeral Home, South Charleston, Ohio. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM.
